**Joselyn is currently completing her training as a certified sex therapy informed professional and will be continuing her training so that she will be able to provide couples counseling!!**

Hi, I am Joselyn! I am trained as a mental health counselor having earned my Bachelors in Psychology with a minor in Philosophy from Utica College in 2017 and my Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from St. John Fisher College. I have 2 years post graduate experience working with individuals who experience chronic pain, trauma, depression, anxiety, and substance abuse. Prior to my degree, I worked as a student advisor, helping high school students work toward graduation and plan effectively for their futures post graduation. I also held a position as a shift manager at McDonald’s.

I became a therapist because I want to help people reach their life goals.  In my work, I strive to be the person who listens to understand, rather than listens to respond. I strive to communicate that I care about your concerns rather than being the person who blames, invalidates, and dismisses. I strive to push my clients to get out of your comfort zone, so they become the best version of themselves.

I have many tools up my sleeves and I would love to share them with you to give you more control in your life. My focus area are transitions (such as divorce, career changes, identity, becoming a parent), grief/loss, trauma, low-self-esteem and difficulty with confidence, anxiety, or interpersonal/relationship conflicts.

I enjoy utilizing Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and Motivational Interviewing (MI) approaches in my sessions. DBT focuses on 4 areas: mindfulness (being in the here and now), interpersonal effectiveness (healthy and effective interactions with others), distress tolerance (bearing painful events skilfully), and emotional regulation (managing our emotions). MI focuses on understanding what motivates us to make change, and using that to our benefit to elicit changes in other areas of our lives. I also often like to use humor in my sessions. In order for us to work on ourselves, I believe we need to be able to laugh about the “good and not so good” parts of our lives.

Some fun facts about me: My favorite food is tacos, I am a dog mom to a golden retriever named Marshmallow with whom I am very much obsessed, and to many peoples surprise, I only started drinking coffee in 2020.
